One of Texas’ greatest waterfalls may be seen at McKinney Falls State Park. This undeveloped area in Austin‘s southeast is the ideal location to escape the city and take in some of Texas’ most beautiful natural beauty. This serene, 641-acre park provides a range of outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, and fishing.
More than 80 campsites with water and electricity hookups are offered at the state park. Additionally, six on-site huts offer a basic place to stay the night. The major route for exploration is the 2.8-mile Onion Creek Hike and Bike Trail, from which other minor paths branch out.
Onion Creek splashing into pools and pouring over limestone cliffs can be heard. Through the woodlands of the Hill Country, follow the pathways. You may also visit the ruins of a very old rock shelter and an early Texas farm. Within Austin’s city borders, McKinney Falls State Park is where all of this is located.
The distance to the state capital is about 13 miles. Camping, hiking, road and mountain biking, geocaching, climbing, and picnicking are all possible here. In Onion Creek, you may go swimming and fishing.
Also included is an overnight campus. Stay at one of the 81 campsites that are properly furnished with power and water hookups. Alternately, you might hire one of the six cottages. For youth groups, they also provide a wild area for camping.
On nearly nine miles of paths, you may go riding or hiking. Onion Creek Hike and Bike Trail is 2.8 miles long and features a firm surface that is suitable for strollers and road cyclists. You may use the Rock Shelter Trail, which is just for hikers, to observe the campsites of the first visitors. Their Interactive Trails Map lets you go on a virtual journey.
Onion or Williamson streams both offer fishing opportunities. In Texas state parks, you can fish from the shore without a license. Beautiful and simple to use state park. There are several signs. Additionally, there are bathrooms in the park. There are wonderful river views along this paved walk. This area has a swimming hole. It is a fantastic state park, kind of a hidden gem, and it is located inside the boundaries of Austin. Excellent paths with clear markers, lovely natural places, and a pleasant river pass through it. The best location for a day of outdoor enjoyment.
